The River Ouse

This painting follows the curve of the River Ouse on a bright summer’s day, where light pours down in a sudden column, cutting across water and hillside.

The grasses along the bank sway with restless energy, while the river itself holds the sky in a quieter reflection. It is the same river where Virginia Woolf walked into the water for the last time—a place forever marked by her story.

I wanted to capture that tension between beauty and melancholy: how a landscape can be at once serene, radiant with light, and yet haunted by memory.
